Natural sewage system for waste water on the campsite by phytoextraction and without energy consumption.
After its use, we go on with the water cycle. We will follow its path to the sewage system place, where we chose phytoextraction, which was a premiere in Brittany by this time for this volume (500 inhabitant equivalent).
Thanks to an optimised water consumption, its sewage is made easier because volumes are less important, even if at season’s peak, we have to treat 20 m3 per day.
Waters coming from sanitary facilities (showers, washbasins, toilets, kitchen sinks, laundry) and from mobile homes get to sewage zone (around 3000m²).
The point of arrival is a grate that help to catch undesirables (plastic bags, towelettes and others objects that can not decompose). The second step is a 60000 liter tank, where all heavy and solide matters deposit at the bottom. Then the liquid goes out to get through a 3m3 volcanic rock filter so as to keep fine particles. Afterward, a flush system stores 1500 liters before releasing in a 200m² filtering plateau where filtration ends (there are 3 filtering plateau, each one working 1 week by alternance, by means of a sluice gates system).
The clean water exiting is then poured in an open-air ditch, before beeing absorbed in an area where wickers and wetlands plants are planted (around 5000m²).
Before reaching the ditch, we installed a 3000 liters buffer tank, which allows us to water plants, and so the water cycle is wrapped avoiding waste.
The advantage of this system is that it does not need energy, very few surveillance and does not pollute, actually we have done analysis proving its good operation.
We raise awereness among our public, already careful of our approach, to not throw nocive products in toilets and to promote the use of environnment-friendly products or EU Ecolabel certified.
